Composite Score for Invitation to Personal Interview by Top IIMs

Many top IIMs and other leading management colleges have announced their minimum CAT 2025 overall and sectional cutoffs. Composite scores are calculated for all qualifying candidates who meet these minimum cutoffs using CAT percentile, 10th and 12th standard marks, graduation marks, work experience, gender and educational diversity, and so on, and then they decide how many to call, with higher composite scores being called first.

Different institutes place different weights on the CAT overall and sectional percentiles, work experience, diversity, and previous school and college grades while vcalculating the Composite Scores.

CAT 2025 Cutoff – Qualifying vs Final Cutoff

There are two kinds of cutoffs present in the CAT selection procedure -

• Cutoff for qualifying – It is the minimum percentile that is required to make one eligible to move to the next level of the selection process. Crossing this point means that one is eligible to move to the next level but will not necessarily receive an invitation to interview.

• Final Cut-off – This cutoff is the actual percentile rank at which students are shortlisted by the IIMs for both the PI process and the Written Ability Test.  The final cutoff ranks much higher than the cutoff required for shortlisting in the case of candidates belonging to the General category.

Components Influencing CAT 2025 Cutoffs

The CAT 2025 cutoff will be announced only after announcing the CAT 2025 results. Though these are determined by some major factors –

• Difficulty level of the exam – The more difficult the paper the lower the cutoffs will be.

• Number of candidates - The cutoff scores increase with the number of exam participants.

• No. of seats available - Fewer seats in IIMs lead to higher cutoff ranks.

• Reservation policies - Seat allocations based on category influence the cutoffs of various categories.

• Candidates' overall performance - More students will find their cutoffs higher if the overall performance of candidates is better. 

CAT 2025 Expected Cutoff - Category Wise

The expected cutoffs for CAT 2025 may differ among various IIMs. These might depend on the ranking and popularity of the institute, level of competition and the total number of seats offered. The cutoffs for the top IIMs such as Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta might be around 99 percentile or above for the general category and for others the cutoffs might be between 90 and 98 percentile. 

Section-wise cutoffs are expected to be between 70 to 85 percentile. Candidates belonging to the SC, ST and OBC categories have been observed to have lower cutoffs. It is to be remembered that only clearing the cutoff allows candidates to proceed to the next level and the overall performance is taken into consideration for the selection process.

IIM Ahmedabad CAT 2025 Cutoff - Minimum Qualifying
