IPMAT Indore Exam Pattern

The IPMAT exam is used to admit students to IIM Indore's five-year integrated program. It is a national-level online test that evaluates the mathematical, verbal and analytical abilities of a student. There are three sections under the IPMAT Indore exam, short answers in quantitative ability, multiple choice questions in quantitative ability and mutiple choice questions in verbal ability. Questions in quantitative ability are from number systems, geometry, algebra, arithmetic, and modern maths.

The MCQ section emphasises the speed and accuracy of the answer, while the short answer section checks problem-solving skills without any negative marking. The verbal ability part tests the candidate’s English language skills through reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, paraphrasing and sentence corrections. In the multiple choice questions, 4 marks are given for each correct answer and for every wrong answer one mark is deducted. 

No marks will be reduced for a wrong answer in the short-answer type questions. 

The exam will last for two hours with a time limit for each section. The candidates who meet the cut-off marks are called for the personal interview.However, this process also takes into account the performance of the candidates in academics. Candidates must be regular in their practice, with strong fundamentals and good time management skills.

The IPMAT conducted by IIM Indore tests the aptitude of the students by dividing the paper in three sections with a total of 90 questions in this examination. The questions are divided into 30 MCQ questions, 15 numeric ability questions (short answers) and 45 questions related to verbal ability.

Eligibility of IPMAT (Indore) Exam

Candidates who are going to appear in the IPMAT exam he/she should meet the following eligibility criteria:

1. Academic Qualification: The candidates must have cleared class 12 or an equivalent. The percentage of marks for the candidates is:

  • General category- 60% marks 

  • SC, ST Category-55% marks 

2. Age Limit: The age criteria is different for students from different categories.

  • The general category candidates must be born on or after August 1, 2004.

  • For the SC/ ST and PwD categories, a relaxation of five years is given. The candidates should be born on or after August 1, 1999.

3. Academic Background: The test is conducted for students who have completed their Class 12 examinations in any subject (science, commerce or arts).

4. Applicants: Candidates appearing for the class 12 exam in 2025 or those who passed in 2024 or 2023 are eligible to apply.

Candidates who are taking the class 12 exam in 2025 are also eligible to apply.

The IPMAT by IIM Indore tests the aptitude of the students by asking questions from verbal ability (MCQs) and quantitative ability (short answers and MCQs).

There is a negative marking of 1 mark for each incorrect answer for MCQ-type questions. No marks will be cut for the short answer type questions. The IPMAT exam syllabus is as follows:

The IPMAT Indore is administered by the IIM Indore for admission into a five year Integrated Program in Management named IPM, which is designed for class 12 candidates who want to make a career in management. This combines the undergraduated and post graduate management education. The first three years of the course would be based on foundational subjects like mathematics, statistics, economics, social science and humanities, whereas the last two years include an MBA-equivalent curriculum.

According to the IPMAT test pattern, the exam lasts 120 minutes or two hours and the total score is 360. There is a time constraint in each section. The candidate will get 40 minutes for each of the three sections.

No, there is no general knowledge part included in the IPMAT Indore exam. The exam has a quantitative ability and verbal ability section to check both the abilities of the candidates. It measures mathematical reasoning, problem-solving abilities, language comprehension and verbal reasoning.

Good IPMAT scores depend on the difficulty level of the exam and the cutoffs of the institute. A score above 230 is good and a score above 300 is great.

The IPMAT Indore exam fees for general and OBC category candidates are ₹4130 and ₹2065 for SC, ST and PWD applicants. The total cost of the program is around ₹28-30 lakhs. Though it may sound expensive, the good education, professional possibilities and the famous IIM brand make it a good investment.
