IIMB History

In 1972, a committee led by Ravi J Matthai, the founding director of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad and co-founder of IRMA recognised the need for another IIM for graduate students after the successful establishment of IIMC and IIMA.

On 27 March 1972, IIM Bangalore’s society was founded under the act that is known as Mysore Societies Registration Act. T.A. Pai became the first chairperson of the institute who was the retired chairman of Syndicate Bank & LIC, Life Insurance Corporation. N S Iyer Ramaswamy became the first director of IIM Ahmedabad. Bangalore's Ravindra Kalakshetra with the support of then-prime minister Indira Gandhi laid the foundation of IIM Bangalore on the 28th of October, 1973.

For students and working professionals at different career levels, the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore offers a variety of management and research programmes. The two-year full-time flagship MBA (PGP) and PGP in Business Analytics (PGPBA) program each have a fee of ₹28.10 lakhs with CAT admission. The Executive MBA (EPGP) is a one-year program for professional working individuals with GMAT/GRE scores and a price range of ₹33.71 lakhs to ₹36.62 lakhs depending on accommodation.

The PGPEM a weekend MBA for professionals offered in two years accepts several entrance tests such as CAT and GMAT at a fee of ₹20.11 lakhs. IIMB also conducts a full-time PhD program and a Pre-doctoral Fellowship without mentioning any tuition fee. Undergraduates can enrol in the BBA in Digital Business and Entrepreneurship which is a 3-year program with a fee of ₹4.50 lakhs, with admission by IIMB's self-test, CUET (UG) or JEE Main. IIM Bangalore Scholarships for 2025

IIM Bangalore provides a variety of scholarships to deserving students for the year 2025. These scholarships are constituted to assist students on the basis of merit, means, social background or outstanding achievements. Some of the prominent scholarships are the Merit Scholarship, Merit-cum-Means Scholarship and awards available at the program. Additionally, there are renowned external scholarships like the Aditya Birla Scholarship, OPJEMS and NTPC Scholarship. 

IIMB also encourages students belonging to underrepresented groups through scholarships offered by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and those for PwD candidates. Some scholarships have also been set up by alumni and donors like the PGP 1998 Batch Scholarship, Ubuntu Scholarship and Deepankar Khiwani Scholarship among others to promote excellence and reduce the financial burden for students.

IIM Bangalore 2025 CAT Exam Cut-Off

CAT exam results are one of the most crucial prerequisites for admission to the great majority of IIM Bangalore's management programmes.  The IIMB cut-off for the postgraduate programme in business analytics (PGPBA) and flagship MBA programme (PGP) for 2025 is probably going to be in the 99th percentile. However, since they can use other criteria or tests, CAT cut-offs are neither formally announced nor applicable for other courses.

IIM Bangalore Admission Process

The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore follows a multi-step selection process for admission to its programs. Some of the main components on which the selection of a candidate depends are CAT scores, academic background, work experience, gender diversity, WAT and PI performance.

Phase 1: 2024 Minimum Cut-Offs for the CAT Exam

Candidates must first meet IIMB’s minimum sectional and overall cut-offs based on their category:

Note: Only candidates who meet the previously indicated cut-off are eligible to participate in Phase 2 of the IIMB selection procedure.

Phase 2: Pre-PI Score (Shortlisting for PI/WAT)

The candidates who achieve the minimum. Cut-offs are then shortlisted for the PI/WAT rounds for which they are scored out of 100 marks based on the following parameters which are given below: 

Breakdown of CAT Score (55%): VARC – 19, DILR – 21, QA – 15

Note:

• Work experience is considered only if it is full-time paid work (up to July 2024). No internship/apprenticeship will be qualified.

• Academic marks are board/university-normalised.

• Only in this round the gender diversity weight will be taken into account. 

• Top 10 in each stream (academic or CAT) will get an automatic PI call.

Phase 3: Final Selection After PI & WAT

After the WAT-PI rounds are over, the candidates are again shortlisted for the selection for admission to IIMB management programs. Out of 100 marks the final selection takes place by considering various parameters and the weightage given to them. These parameters are given below along with the weightage given to them: 

Breakdown of CAT Score (25%) in Final Round is VARC – 8.75, DILR – 10 and QA – 6.25.

• Work Experience is assessed both by months and quality rated by the interview panel.

• WAT & PI are done on the same day and take 30 minutes.

• All marks are standardised (mean and standard deviation adjusted).

• CA, CS, ICWA and other professional courses are accepted and assessed under graduation or work profile.

IIM Bangalore Placements 

IIM Bangalore has great placement prospects particularly for its flagship management courses. For the PGP/MBA and PGPBA courses the average salary offer is ₹34.88 lakhs per year, indicating the excellent demand for IIMB graduates in the industry. The one-year Executive Post Graduate Program (EPGP) also has an even higher average package of ₹35.5 lakhs per year indicating its worth for seasoned professionals. Other program placement details such as PGPEM, PhD and BBA(DBE) are not provided.
