Admission/Selection Procedure for Post-Graduate Program in Management (PGP/MBA) at IIM Ahmedabad Through CAT 2025

Eligibility Criteria for the PGP Program 

For the two-year Post Graduate Program in Management (PGP) candidates should hold a Bachelor's degree (minimum 3 years from 12th) with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (45% for SC/ST/PwD). The degree should be from a recognised university as per UGC or Government of India norms.

Final-year students or result-awaiting students can also apply. They should provide evidence from their college that they have completed all the requirements of their degree by June 30, 2025. Final documents (marksheet and certificate) should arrive by December 31, 2025. In case of non-compliance, admission will be cancelled.

Admission Process for the PGP Program 

The Admission process for the 2025-27 PGP/MBA batch at IIMA has two main steps:

Step 1: Shortlisting for Analytical Writing Test (AWT) and Personal Interview (PI).

Step 2: Final Selection

• Only candidates with a valid CAT 2025 score who meet the eligibility criteria can be considered.

Application Rating (AR) Score

AR Score also known as Application Rating Score is used by IIM Ahmedabad to judge a candidate’s academics, work experience and diversity to shortlist them for the Personal Interview (PI) round. It is determined by adding marks from five aspects:

1. 10th Standard Marks: Higher marks = Higher rating (out of 10).

2. 12th Standard Marks: Points are based on both student's marks and their stream (Science / Commerce / Arts). For the same marks, Arts students can receive marginally more marks to offset subject difficulty.

3. Bachelor's Degree Marks: Points are based on their marks and academic category (such as Engineering, Medicine, Commerce, Arts etc.). There are different rating scales for each discipline.

4. Work Experience: Candidates gain points if they have worked for 12 months or more after graduation. The greater their experience (up to 36 months), the more points they gain up to a maximum of 5.

5. Gender Diversity: If you're not male, you earn 2 additional points for fostering gender diversity. Every element is assigned a set score range (such as 0 through 10 or 0 through 5) and the overall AR Score is the combination of all five.

Shortlisting Criteria

The candidates are shortlisted for the PI and AWT rounds in the following two phases:

Phase 1:

• The best 5% performers of each academic discipline and reservation category are shortlisted according to a Composite Score (CS):

 CS = 0.35 × Normalised AR Score + 0.65 × Normalized CAT Score

• Minimum cut-offs on marks and CAT scores must be achieved by them.

• There are caps on the number of candidates shortlisted per category.

Phase 2:

Once Stage 1 candidates are eliminated, additional candidates are shortlisted solely based on the Composite Score and minimum cut-offs.

Personal Interview and AWT: According to their class 10th, class 10+2, and graduation percentages and their percentile or score in the CAT exam for Indian citizens or GMAT exam for foreign citizens, the shortlisted candidates will be called for an analytical writing test and personal interview.

Step 2: Final Selection

Candidates who qualify for AWT & PI rounds are ultimately shortlisted depending on their 

Final Composite Score (FCS):

FCS = 0.50 × Normalised PI Score + 0.10 × Normalised AWT Score + 0.25 × Normalised CAT Score + 0.15 × Normalised AR Score

• Scores are normalised w.r.t. top performers.

• Category-wise seats are allocated according to reservation rules.

Final Choice: To receive admission in the course a candidate will be selected on the basis of their CAT/GMAT percentile/score and their 10th class, 12th class and other degree marks and the academic writing test and PI or personal interview.

The CAT Exam selection parameter weight is 25%, 15% for classes 10th & 12th, graduation, gender diversity & work experience and 10% for the Normalised Academic Writing Test (AWT) and 50% for standardised personal interviews (PIs).

Reservation

The Government of India makes it compulsory that 27% of the seats will be given to NC-OBC candidates, 15% seats to SC candidates, 7.5% seats to ST candidates, 5% seats to PwD candidates and up to 10% seats to candidates that come from Economically Weaker Sections (EWS). Also, candidates must check the category on the CAT application form to which they belong.

Admission Process for the Post-Graduate Program in Management for Executives (PGPX)

IIM Ahmedabad Eligibility Criteria for the PGPX Program 

The PGPX program at IIM Ahmedabad is made for working professionals looking to take their leadership and management roles to the next level. To qualify for the 2025–26 batch, candidates need to have a bachelor's degree or equivalent in any stream with a minimum of 15 years of formal education in the Indian system of education (10+2+3 or 4). They must have at least four years of full-time post-graduation work experience as on March 31, 2025. They must also be at least 25 years old by that date (i.e. born on or before March 31, 2000).  

A valid test score in GMAT or GRE is necessary and the test should have been administered at a test centre (not an online at-home version). The test score should be within the last five years, varying earliest acceptable times by admission round. GMAT Focus Edition scores are also accepted. A candidate may submit only one application through all three admission rounds.

Admission Process for the PGPX Program 

IIM Ahmedabad PGPX admission process is done in three rounds giving several opportunities for application. The process seeks to choose industry professionals with a good academic background, leadership abilities and steady career advancement. The test-takers are considered on the basis of GMAT/GRE scores, work experience, academic record, leadership potential and personal interview.

Two-Stage Selection Procedure

Stage 1: Shortlisting for Interview

Applications are reviewed in great detail and those shortlisted are selected on the basis of crucial factors such as test scores, academic record and professional experience. Candidates shortlisted are also asked to provide essays that assist in evaluating motivations, ambitions and suitability for the program.

Stage 2: Personal Interview

Shortlisted applicants are called for face-to-face interviews with a panel of IIMA faculty. The panel assesses them at the interview on the following criteria: Quality and extent of experience, Career growth, Academic preparedness, Leadership capability, Achievements and goal clarity and Clarity of communication and interpersonal skills. The final choice also takes into account the candidate's overall fit with the PGPX program.

Final Selection

Offline interviews are held at specific locations or on campus. The chosen candidates are sent an email informing them of the final decision as per the official admission schedule.

Admission Process for the Postgraduate Program in Food and Agribusiness Management (PGP-FABM) 

Eligibility Criteria for the PGP-FABM Program 

To be eligible to apply, candidates should hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree (minimum 3 years post 12th) with 50% marks (or 45% marks in case of SC/ST/PWD candidates). Two modes of eligibility are applicable:

• Agriculture background: Degree in agricultural sciences or allied subjects.

• Non-agri background: Degree in any other discipline but with a good aptitude in agriculture, food, rural or allied disciplines. Candidates should also fill up a special form along with the application.

Final-year students or result-awaiting students can also apply but they should fulfil all degree requirements by June 30, 2025 and provide final documents by December 31, 2025 to activate admission. Cancellation will follow if they fail to do so.

Admission Process for the PGP-FABM Program 

Admission to the PGP-FABM program at IIM Ahmedabad is conducted in two steps. 

Step 1: Selecting Candidates for the AWT and PI Rounds 

Admission to the PGP-FABM program of IIM Ahmedabad is a two-stage process. Candidates are shortlisted for the Analytical Writing Test (AWT) and Personal Interview (PI) initially based on their CAT 2024 score, overall academic record and eligibility. Foreign nationals with a food/agriculture background residing in India need to apply under the Supernumerary Quota on the basis of a valid GMAT Focus Edition or older-format GMAT score taken at a test centre.

CAT scores carry 65% weightage and Application Rating Score (ARS), which is computed based on Class 10, Class 12, bachelor's degree marks, and work experience, carries 35% weightage. Candidates having an agricultural or allied stream academic background are preferred. Candidates without an agricultural academic background have to provide an additional form stating their interest in the programme within five days of shortlist announcements otherwise their application will be withdrawn. The process to calculate the composite score which is used to call the candidates for the personal interview round is given below: 

Composite Score = 0.65 × Normalised CAT Score + 0.35 × Application Rating Score (ARS)

Normalised CAT Score is the mean of normalised scores across Quantitative Ability (QA), Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR) and Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC) scaled separately against the top 50 scores for each section.

Application Rating Score (ARS) takes into account:

• Class 10 marks (Rating A)

• Class 12 marks (Rating B – stream-wise)

• Graduation marks (Rating C – discipline category-based)

• Work experience (Rating D – scaled for 12–36 months; max score = 5)

They need to submit all mark sheets even of pending semesters. If their degree does not specify a percentage, they need to obtain an equivalence certificate. Integrated 5-year degree holders need to complete the full course or have a bachelor's degree given halfway through to be suitable.

Step 2: Final Selection Criteria for PGP-FABM

Once the analytical Writing Test round and Personal Interview Round are done, the candidates are chosen for the PGP-FABM program based on their final compost score which is given below along with the weightage given to them: 

Admission Procedure for the ePost Graduate Diploma in Advanced Business Analytics (ePGD-ABA)

Eligibility Criteria for the ePGD-ABA Program 

To apply candidates should possess a bachelor's degree with sound analytical capabilities and minimum 2 years of work experience (ideally in business analytics). Superior candidates with outstanding academic or professional records can receive some concession on experience. A valid score in CAT, GMAT, GRE, GATE or the ePGD-ABA aptitude test is a must. Minimum cut-offs - CAT (70 percentile or more), GMAT (70% score or better), GRE 50th percentile (Verbal) & 70th percentile (Quant) and GATE Top 30% rank in the subject category

Admission Process for the ePost Graduate Diploma in Advanced Business Analytics (ePGD-ABA)

Step 1: Candidates having a GMAT, GRE, CAT or GATE score are eligible for admission to the course. In case, any of the applicants don't possess a valid GMAT, GRE, CAT or GATE score then also they are eligible to take admission through ePGD-ABA by passing the aptitude test. The duration of the test is 1 hour and 30 minutes and the same shall be conducted in 3-sections:

(i) English comprehension.

(ii) Logical thinking and data interpretation.

(iii) Mathematical aptitude.

All candidates are required to clear the analytical proficiency test. Analytical Proficiency Test is compulsory for all candidates. The examination is expected to be conducted for one hour and includes questions based on basic analytics, mathematics, statistics and data visualisation of the Central Board of Secondary Education's 10th and 12th grade levels. The tests will be conducted in a device-to-device online mode.

Step 2: Individual Interview

Personal interviews will be scheduled for the shortlisted candidates. Online interviews will be conducted using Zoom.

Final Selection: An Email will be sent to selected candidates.

The Admission Process for Enrolling in a Blended Post Graduate Program in Management (BPGP) 

Eligibility Criteria for the BPGP Program

• Available for working professionals and entrepreneurs who have at least 3 years of full-time work experience after graduation (up to March 31, 2025).

• At least 24 years old as of March 31, 2025 (born on or before March 31, 2001). There is no maximum age limit.

• Should be a bachelor's degree holder (or CA/CS/ICWA) with a minimum of 50% marks from a recognised university (under the 10+2+3/4 system in India).

Admission Process for Blended Post Graduate Program in Management (BPGP) 

Candidates may apply with any one of the following exams for admission into the Blended Post Graduate Program in Management (BPGP):

• IIMA Admission Test (IAT).

• Valid CAT, GMAT or GRE score (taken within the last 5 years, up to March 10, 2025). (Note: Only test-center based GMAT/GRE scores are acceptable. Online/home tests are not acceptable).

• Final selection will be made on the basis of the shortlisted candidate’s personal interviews.

IIMA Admission Test (IAT)

The IIM ahmedabad entrance exam for MBA in blended format known as IIMA Admission Test (IAT) is an online test for candidates who do not have CAT, GMAT or GRE scores. They can opt for IAT while submitting the application form. The test will be held at some centres in India and at the IIMA Dubai campus. The centres have been listed in the application portal. The test is of 90 minutes durations and contains 45 questions in three sections:

• Quantitative Aptitude

• Analytical Reasoning

• Verbal Aptitude
