Founded in 1961 and globally known as IIMA the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad is situated in Vastrapur, Ahmedabad. It has been designated an 'Institute of National Importance' by the Government of India's Ministry of Education (MoE). IIMA obtained EQUIS accreditation from the EFMD and became the first management school in South Asia to achieve this. Apart from Vastrapur, IIM Ahmedabad has its campus in Dubai as well.

This prestigious institute is India's best business school. As per the NIRF 24 ranking, the institute is ranked top and in the IIRF 2025 Ranking also it is the top-ranked government institution in India. However, IIMA QS World Ranking 2025 is 60th in the world. But FT World University Rankings placed IIMA in 31st place.

IIMA History

On 11th December 1961, the GOI (Government of India), the Government of Gujarat & the Harvard Business School collaborated with the Indian industry to form IIM Ahmedabad. Some very famous individuals contributed significantly in shaping the institute such as Vikram Sarabhai and Kasturbhai Lalbhai. But Kamla Chowdhary was also the inaugural faculty member of the IIM Ahmedabad & programs coordinator during the year 1962 to 1965.

Ravi J. Matthai was appointed as the director of the institute. At the institute, students are accepted to various master's courses in management & agribusiness management and other executive training and fellowship programs.

In 2024, the National Institutional Ranking Framework ranked it as India's number-one business school. Over the years 2020–2024, it has occupied the number one position among management institutions in India. IIMA stands for the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad.

• The morning at IIMA starts with lectures in the IIMA classroom by experienced professors that go on till 1 PM.

IIM Ahmedabad 2025 CAT Exam Cut-Off

Prestigious Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad’s courses admission is a very competitive, multi-step process. It is designed to pick up well-rounded students with good academic records, analytical skills, communication skills and leadership qualities.

The entire process of selection is carried out in two primary stages:

Shortlisting Criteria:

• CAT 2025 Score - The candidate needs to take the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2025. They must secure a minimum sectional cut-off (VARC, DILR, QA) and overall percentile. These sectional cut-offs are different for categories like General, EWS, NC-OBC, SC, ST and PwD.

• Academic Achievement - Class 10th, Class 12th and graduation marks are taken into account. The assessment takes advantage of a rating scale that assigns weightage by considering the candidate’s absolute performance and discipline in academics.

• Work Experience (if any) - Full-time work experience is needed. The marks rely on the period of experience as well as the excellence of experience (as evident in the job profile).

• Gender Diversity - IIM Ahmedabad fosters gender diversity through the practice of granting extra points to female applicants, particularly from streams where female enrollment is traditionally low.

Stage 2: Final Selection of Candidates

Shortlisted candidates in Stage 1 take the AWT and PI typically held in February–March 2025. Final Selection will be based on the following parameters:

IIM Ahmedabad Placements 

IIMA placed 100% of its PGP and PGP-FABM 2024 batch. Some top recruiters that placed students are Accenture and Boston Consulting Group as they had offered 26 and 23 offers respectively. Another area of recruitment includes Consulting (with TCS 17 offers), Investment Banking (Goldman Sachs with 9 offers) & General Management (with Adani 10 offers) have witnessed an exponential increase. 

The placements were done in two steps to optimise the match between students and companies. The PGP placements also saw the participation of 23 new firms increasing the opportunities. 

The institute has also done its placements for the PGP-FABM course 2024 batch. Recruiters of different industries like Agri-inputs, consulting, Agri-Tech & FMCG offer roles to students of PGP-FABM.
