Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) was founded in Mumbai in 1981 by Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal (SVKM), a major public charity educational institution. NMIMS was founded with the intention of offering management programs at the diploma and master's (graduate) levels.

The first college to obtain the AICTE recognition in Mumbai city for its postgraduate diploma in management programme was NMIMS. Since its inception, the college has evolved to provide diploma-level courses, master's-level courses denoted as MBA and doctoral courses denoted as PhD.

In 1999, the Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development, invited NMIMS University to consider being declared a deemed to be university under section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. The UGC Act is a legislation governing university education in India and it has the right to grant university status in institutions of excellence under deemed-to-be universities.

On 13th January, 2003, the Central Government of India granted Deemed-to-be-University status to NMIMS Mumbai, under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. NMIMS Eligibility

• Final year Bachelor’s degree holders can apply for full time programs at NMIMS.

• The admission shall be provisional, subject to successfully passing the final exam with the required marks.

• All exams should be done before starting the NMIMS program.

• All semester/trimester mark sheets have to be submitted at the time of admission by the candidates.

• If the mark sheets are downloaded from websites, attestation or self-attestation is required.

• Students with a GPA/CGPA have to provide an official equivalent value in terms of percentage from their university.

Valid work experience criteria

• Only the work experience acquired after postgraduate studies will qualify for consideration.

• The candidates having work experience of more than one year shall be given greater preference in the final merit list.

• The employment experience will be valid only if the employer has a registered GSTIN and a TAN.

NMIMS Selection Criteria

• Applicants applying to the various programs of NMIMS will be short-listed based on the sectional and overall NMAT score.

• Only the shortlisted candidates will be invited to the second phase of the selection process. The methodology consists of a competency test and a personal interview. This shall be conducted in person and the candidates need to bring along their NMAT scorecard.

• The call letters will be made available only on the Candidate's dashboard and will not be sent by email or post.

• Final merit lists will be prepared considering NMAT scores, interview performance, competency test results, work experience and past academic records.

NMIMS Scholarship

NMIMS University does not offer an extensive scholarship program, but there are some that are merit-based. Scholarships worth INR 2 lakhs are offered to those who come under the top 50 ranks of the NMAT exam. Additionally, there are some that offer scholarships to those from the family of an employee of the government or those with an annual family income of INR 8 lakhs or below, based on certain conditions and terms that need to be met.

To provide further assistance for funding, NMIMS has tie-ups with leading national and international banks, ensuring easy access to education loans because of its strong reputation. The cost of living for one year varies from 2.1 to 11.95 lakh rupees, along with an increase of 5-10% per annum. There are fewer prospects for scholarships; however, they are generally for high performers or on the basis of specific eligibility.

NMIMS Mumbai Hostel & Campus

The NMIMS Hostel facility, run by The NMIMS Deemed to be University (as per UGC Norms), consists of two separate full-fledged hostels and three separate residential accommodations (managed by the University itself), in Mumbai for boys and girls separately. The candidates admitted (on first come first serve basis; candidates from outside Mumbai are given preference for admission in the hostel) to the hostel are allowed to stay in the hostel only for the duration of the academic session and are required to leave the rooms vacant for summer maintenance work.
