First Year Syllabus of PGPM/MBA Program

Note-  first-year students also undertake a mandatory summer internship (8–10 weeks) between Years 1 and 2. Additionally, there is a “Make a Difference” (MAD) Team Project, where students work on socially relevant problems under faculty guidance, reinforcing social responsibility and management learning.

• Economics & Public Policy –  International trade and policy, development debates along with  game theory for managers

• Information Systems and Analytics - covers everything related to IT consulting and guiding digital transformations, from turning data into actionable insights to managing big data projects. Courses span Managing Digital Transformations (MDT), Business Analytics for Decision Making (BADM), 

• Business Insights From Big Data – Managing Transformation of Data To Insights (BIBD) and Digital Product Management for Startups (DPMS).

•  Finance & accounting – focus areas include corporate finance, risk management, investment analysis, valuation, banking, behavioural finance, FinTech and related topics.

Note—In addition, students can opt for a Course of Independent Study (CIS) during Term IV, giving them freedom to pursue deep study/live business cases/research under faculty supervision.

Key Curriculum Features of IIM Trichy PGPM-HR Program 

• The PGPM-HR is a two-year full-time residential MBA Program that commenced in the year 2020 at IIM Trichy that specialises in human resources management. While electives in 2nd Year around HR, OB, organisational behaviour, change management, leadership, people analytics, negotiation, strategic HR, etc. allow for domain specialisation.

• HR leaders, and not just HR leaders but business leaders — the programme is also brings focus on soft skills, communication, ethics and legal & macro/microeconomics.

• The PGPM-HR too is backed by summer internships and team/social responsibility projects that impart real-world experience and social sensibility – two critical elements that can do wonders in HR fields, which are often interfaced with people and ecological realities.

Key Features of IIM Trichy PGPBM (Executive MBA) Syllabus

• PGPBM is an executive MBA program designed as in-class, non-residential program for working professionals and executives

• Duration is 21 months, with around 870 classroom contact hours over this period.

• Overall, the curriculum contains initial term core courses to develop a strong backing of management knowledge: finance, accounting, economics, organisational behaviour, operations, marketing, statistics, communication, etc.

•  After the core part, students choose elective courses focused on their professional interest to enable customisation and more profound learning of the domains important for their future career.

• The program concludes with a Capstone Industry Project (live business challenge or case study) — giving participants the ability to apply classroom learning to real organisational problems.

Note- Classes are held on weekends, on Saturdays and Sundays. Thus, one is able to preserve their work experience and workplace seniority while receiving an MBA degree to premiere one’s career prospects.

Key Features of IIM Tiruchirappalli PhD (Doctoral Program) Syllabus

• The full-time doctoral program—DPM (PhD / Doctoral Program in Management)—including coursework in general management and specialisation, research methodology and electives—represents many credits to be earned before one even embarks on the thesis.

• During the first 18 months, students take classes covering research methods, domain courses and advanced topics and general management classes.

• Total of 54 credits (courses in the relevant subject area or discipline, elective, research appreciation, research methodology, general management)

• By undertaking coursework and independent research, culminating in a dissertation/thesis with the supervision of a faculty supervisor.

• Moreover, a student has to clear a detailed written test, viva voce and evaluation of the research proposal before they can progress to the next stage

Key Features of IIM Trichy Executive PhD (E-PhD / EDPM) Syllabus

• Along with a PhD in Management, IIM Trichy also offers a non-residential Executive Doctoral Program in Management (better known as E-PhD/EDPM) to senior professionals/executives, which helps them in pursuing PhD-level research while be in jobs.

• The syllabus is a flexible mix of coursework modules (general management + core disciplines + methodology) and thesis work to let participants combine research with industries/practical problems.

• So, coursework requirements are reflective of a full-time PhD in that they ensure foundation training in research methodology, domain knowledge and academic rigour.

• After completing coursework, participants then research and write a dissertation under the guidance of faculty and may have the opportunity to tackle real business or social issues—a mix of scholarly rigour and applicability.
