The PhD program at IIM Shillong offers an adequate financing package. First and second year scholars are paid INR 35,000 per month while third and fourth year scholars are paid INR 40,000 per month upon clearing extensive exams and meeting milestone obligations. For research, conference, seminar and other expenses, every scholar also gets an ad hoc grant of INR 50,000, one time computer grant (approximately INR 80,000 in the second year) and other financial assistance amounting to INR 2,30,000. This unloads PhD candidates from unnecessary monetary burdens so that they can focus on studies.
Students who want to take part in the NBFA (Need-Based Financial Assistance) program must apply through the PGP/MBA office after enrolling in PGP/MBA at IIM Shillong. The NBFA application typically involves providing income documentation (family/parent income), supporting documents (tax returns, salary slips etc.), and perhaps an interaction with the NBFA screening panel to determine actual need. The institute makes a deadline for submission of applications for NBFA, which is advertised upon the sending of admission offers. While particular dates in 2025 will vary, candidates should monitor official IIM Shillong PGP admissions news and the NBFA office releases.
Indeed, pupils who are SC, ST, or PWD are especially eligible for financial aid and scholarships at IIM Shillong. The government programs like "Top Class Education Scheme for SC Students", "National Fellowship & Scholarship for Higher Education of ST Students", etc., central programs offer waiver of tuition fee and other assistance (books, computer, non-refundable fees) to the deserving applicants. Among the schemes that fall in the SC category is the "Scheme of Top Class Scholarship for SC Students – Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.". For the PWD, there are also government schemes. Until a student maintains achievement of performance, documentation, and other qualifications, these scholarships usually cover all or most of the price of tuition.
The standard schedule for the PGP/MBA Scholarship 2025 at IIM Shillong proceeds as follows in basic steps: (a) An offer of admission through CAT and IIM Shillong; (b) payment of institute fees and deposits upon acceptance of the offer; and (c) the opening of the NBFA/institution need-based assistance application window shortly thereafter. Admission acceptances are followed by NBFA deadlines and paperwork for government scholarship programs. Admitted candidates must carefully go through PGP official announcements and NBFA circulars because specific dates change from year to year. To prevent delays, it is highly advised that the necessary paperwork (certificates, proof of income) be prepared well in advance.
