The SET exam is administered online and is computer-based. It simply tests a student's skills in four sections: English, Quantitative (Math) Ability, General Awareness and Analytical and Logical Reasoning. Each section consists of multiple-choice questions, with no minus marking. The test duration is 60 minutes and a total of 60 questions are asked, each carrying one mark.

The SET is divided into two forms according to the course: SET General (for BBA, BCA, etc.) and SITEEE (for engineering courses). Candidates have to apply for the appropriate test that is relevant to the curriculum chosen by them. Apart from SET exam registration, applicants need to apply separately to each Symbiosis college that they wish to join.

Passed candidates are shortlisted for the next stages, which include a Personal Interview (PI), a Written Ability Test (WAT) or both, as applicable depending upon the course and institute.

Admission is finally offered based on overall performance at all stages of the screening process.

Students need to enroll for the SET test based on the subject they have chosen. They also need to apply to each Symbiosis college separately.

Briefly, SET is the gateway for students who want to apply to Symbiosis undergraduate courses.  It evaluates fundamental abilities and helps the institution shortlist candidates for the next round.  Candidates who prepare thoroughly and know the SET pattern have better chances of success and getting into one of India's best Symbiosis colleges.
