SET Exam Admission Process
Following the exam, shortlisting is done by each participating Symbiosis institute based on SET scores. Passing the SET is not a guarantee of admission. Shortlisted candidates are called for the next step, which could be a Personal Interaction (PI).
The Personal Interaction is akin to an interview in which the panel assesses the communication ability, confidence and aptness of a candidate for the program. The Written Ability Test assesses a student's writing ability, coherence of thought and capacity to express ideas. Academic records and achievements may also be further examined by some institutes.
After all these stages, the last merit list is prepared. It is developed from a combination of the SET exam, PI and earlier academic marks. Shortlisted candidates are granted admission to the desired Symbiosis institute and course.
Highlights of the SET Selection Process
Symbiosis International (Deemed) University conducts the Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET) for students who are applying to its undergraduate programs. Candidates are first shortlisted according to their SET scores. Shortlisted candidates then undergo further selection stages, which involve a Personal Interaction (PI). The final choice is determined by the overall performance in the SET exam and PI with any past academic performances that are taken into consideration.
SET Test Pattern
With no negative marking and 60 multiple-choice questions, the Symbiosis SET is a computer-based test lasting 60 minutes. Each of the four components of the paper—General English (16 Q), Quantitative Aptitude (16 Q), General Awareness (16 Q) and Analytical & Logical Reasoning (12 Q)—carries one mark. Under stringent time constraints, this concise method ensures focused assessment of the four principal skills—language, arithmetic, current affairs and logic.
Additional Rounds of Selection
Personal interview (PI)Â
In essence, the Personal Interaction session is an interview that assesses candidates' communication skills, motivation, personality, and fit for the programme of choice. In person or via video, the panel will usually question applicants about their academic background, extracurricular interests, professional goals, and motivations for pursuing Symbiosis. They're interested in knowing how applicants think, speak and communicate, so being assertive, articulate and genuine is critical.
