Prof Arun Mohan Sherry, the founding Director of the IIIT Lucknow, has been appointed as the Director of the IIM Shillong for a five-year term. The appointment was approved by the President of India, who serves as the Visitor of all IIMs.

Prof Sherry has been leading IIIT Lucknow since 2019 and will now take charge of IIM Shillong, one of India's leading management institutes.
Speaking about his vision, Prof Sherry said the institute will focus on integrating artificial intelligence into research, data science and business education. He noted that AI has become an essential part of modern education and business and the institute aims to use it to reshape management education.
He also said that efforts will be made to expand opportunities in UG business management programs and strengthen the institute's global outlook. According to him, technology has made international education more accessible and IIM Shillong will leverage digital tools to enhance higher education and management studies.
Prof Sherry added that lifelong learning will be another key priority as rapid technological advancements require professionals to continuously update their knowledge and skills.
With more than 30 years of academic and leadership experience, Prof Sherry is recognised for developing IIIT Lucknow into a leading institution known for academic excellence, innovation, entrepreneurship, research and strong industry partnerships.
Before joining IIIT Lucknow, he held senior leadership roles at NMIMS, IMT Ghaziabad and HCL TalentCare.
Prof Sherry is an MSc gold medalist who holds an MTech in Computer Science from IIT Kharagpur and then proceeded with a doctorate degree. He has authored many scientific papers in the areas of computer science, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation and has received various awards in recognition of his significant contributions to higher education.
