If candidates are planning to take the GRE General Test in 2025 first thing they need to do is register online. It is very simple and takes no more than 15–20 minutes if candidates have their details in hand. Step-by-Step GRE Registration Process (2025)

  1. Log in or Sign Up: Visit the ETS GRE website. If the applicants are new, sign up by filling in their name, email and other details required.

  2. Choose Your Exam: Select the option that states GRE General Test.

  3. Pick a Date & Location: Then candidates must choose their desired exam date and test centre. The option of GRE at Home is also available if it is offered in their locality.

  4. Fill in the Details: Candidates must fill in their academic, personal and contact details carefully.

  5. Pay the Test price: Candidates must use a legitimate payment method to cover their registration price.

  6. Receive Confirmation: After their payment is confirmed, they'll receive an email confirmation and are able to download their registration receipt from their ETS account.

Payment Modes for the GRE Fee in India

Applicants can pay their GRE fee through any of the following:

  • Debit/Credit Cards (Visa, MasterCard, RuPay, Maestro).

  • UPI-based apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm etc can also be used.

  • Digital Wallets and Bharat QR.

  • International cards through Dynamic Currency Conversion (for non-Indian cards).

GRE at Home – Take the Test from Anywhere

For those candidates who do not want to the test centre, there is the option of taking the test at home. This option is open in all Indian cities and comes with the same format, duration and price as the test centre option.

Even before the candidates schedule a time for the examination, they need to ensure that their laptop or computer, internet and webcam comply with the system requirements provided by ETS.

Rescheduling or Cancellation of the GRE Exam

  • The candidates can reschedule or cancel their test through their ETS account or GRE services.

  • To reschedule: Change at least 4 days before the exam. The candidates will be charged ₹5,000 for rescheduling.

  • To Cancel: Cancel at least 4 days prior so the candidates will receive a 50% refund i.e., ₹11,250.

The candidates should ensure the list of items mentioned below is prepared with them:

Things to Keep in Mind

  • The GRE General Test price is ₹22,000.

  • Candidates need to bring the original Indian passport to the test centre – no other acceptable ID.

  • Candidates should schedule their test date to allow at least 12 days for their scores to be delivered to universities.

  • They may send scores to 4 universities at no extra cost if shortlisted during registration.

  • They can request additional score reports later but it will cost extra.
