 Application Data of the IIM Calcutta MBA/PGP Candidates

IIM Calcutta (IIMC) sees a staggering interest each year. For the PGP 2024–28 cycle over 1,77,009 aspirants applied under the general category alone along with 14,108 (EWS), 46,567 (NC‑OBC), 21,447 (SC) and 5,727 (ST) candidates. These figures illustrate the intense competition to secure one in the PGP batch. This large applicant pool demonstrates how even top percentile CAT performance does not ensure an interview call, emphasising the importance of the composite score in the candidate selection process.

According to the institution's official website, the post-GM PGPEx batch will have 77 seats, with roughly 475 seats available across all MBA/PGP degrees.

Invitation Offer to Shortlisted Candidates for Interview

IIM Calcutta invites candidates for WAT-PI (Written Ability Test & Personal Interview) after considering their CAT performance and academic/written test benchmarks. For 2023–25 the WAT‑PI shortlist comprised 931 General, 63 EWS, 409 NC‑OBC, 418 SC and 222 ST candidates. This reflects cut-offs like Composite Score ≥ 52.743 for General, 48.141 for EWS, 45.400 for NC‑OBC, 39.003 for SC and 33.302 for ST. Such rigorous cutoffs indicate that sectional cutoffs alone are not enough—your composite score, including academics, CAT and diversity/experience, needs to be good too. These invites usually drop in a couple of weeks after the CAT results, with the institute aiming for an optimised blend of high-scanners, academic diversity, gender balance and applicable work experience.

Composite Score Cut-Off for Interview Shortlist

The composite score for WAT‑PI shortlisting combines CAT performance (56%), Class X & XII grades (25%), and a gender-diversity bonus (4%). For PGP 2023–25 (2024–26 admission) the category-wise composite thresholds were:

• General: ≥52.743

• EWS: ≥48.141

• NC‑OBC: ≥45.400

• SC: ≥39.003

• ST: ≥33.302 

The composite cut-offs choose just the most well-rounded applicants for the WAT-PI stage.  It's a balancing act—higher CAT percentile, strong board performance, and diversity/experience advantages.  It is important to note that these data are based on RTI which ensures their accuracy.

 Cumulative Score Cut-Off for Final Admission Offer

Final admission decisions rest solely on cumulative composite scores after WAT‑PI. For the 2024–26 batch, cut-offs included:

• General: ≥52.794

• EWS: ≥51.000

• NC‑OBC: ≥42.330

• SC: ≥44.802

• ST: ≥36.091 

These limits, which are slightly lower than interview stages in several categories, represent final merit ranking. IIMC sent admission letters to each category according to their final composite score.  The minor difference between WAT-PI shortlist and final offer reflects conventional conversion rates without significant score reduction.

Admission Offers

IIM Calcutta made a confirmed offer of admission to candidates above final composite cut-offs. Statistics show near-1:1 conversion for shortlist-to-offer in all categories, reflecting negligible dropouts prior to impression. For example, the composite cut-off was 51–53 for General, with ~900 invites converting to ~230 admissions for the entire PGP batch (2023–25). Offers are normally made category-wise in balanced quotas, as per the reservation guidelines. Significantly, it announces last offers in waves initially to front‑runners and then waitlist activations, mostly in NC‑OBC and EWS, where movement is most active.

Waitlist movements in 2024 were significant especially in the NC‑OBC and EWS categories. RTI evidence from reputable sources shows further waitlist rounds occurred after the initial offer stage. The factors included decreased proposals and volatility in other IIMs.  RTI provided category-specific information about candidates, who were waitlisted and offered positions, as well as timeframes, to help prospective applicants strategise more successfully.

Note: These most recent statistics challenge concerns about "mysterious waitlist calls" by presenting visible movements with precise cut-off and pace information.

Lowest and Maximum CAT Percentiles of Applicants Receiving IIMC 2024–26 Offers

The RTI-derived dataset from some reliable sources gives insight into real applicant percentiles:

• General: Offers given to candidates with 99+ percentiles.

• NC‑OBC/EWS: Minimum percentiles ranged from 95 to 97.

• SC: Final cut-off around 85–90 percentile

• ST: Admission at 75–80 percentile. The lowest CAT percentile among successful general category offers was around 99, while the highest was 100. For under-represented categories, lower cut-offs capture contextual conversions but success comes with high-level CAT scores and composite performance.
