Indian Institute of Management Calcutta was founded in November 1961 as the first national institute in the country for postgraduate studies in management. This institute was formed in association with Alfred P. Sloan School of Management (MIT), the government of West Bengal, the Ford Foundation and industries in India. The institute’s main campus spans 135 acres and is situated at Joka in Kolkata where it was shifted in 1975.

Indian Institute of Management Calcutta MBA Admission Process

IIM Calcutta admissions procedure begins with the Common Admission Test (CAT 2025). The CAT 2025 exam is mandatory for all aspirants. Initially, the candidate must clear the sectional and aggregate cut-off marks. However, meeting the minimum cut-off marks does not guarantee that the applicant will proceed to the next phase.

During the second phase, the applicant is selected based on a cumulative score. The cumulative score is calculated on the basis of CAT marks, academic performance (Class 10 and Class 12) and the diversity of gender. The shortlisted candidates are called for the Personal Interview (PI) and Written Ability Test (WAT).

Following the completion of the PI and WAT, the final score is computed. The final phase holds significant weightage particularly the interview. The final score is calculated after considering the candidate’s performance in the PI, WAT, CAT test, academic diversity and professional experience.

This final merit list is prepared according to the total performance of the applicants. Those applicants who qualify for the final merit list will be given admission but the students need to provide all the documents before the deadline.

One important point to remember is that getting the cut-off marks or being eligible is not the only criterion for admission because selection entirely depends on the total performance of the candidates.
