IIT Madras DoMS is located on a 630-acre green campus with modern academic infrastructure, hostels, sports facilities and essential amenities. Their students live in fully equipped hostels with Wi-Fi access, common rooms and shared or single occupancy rooms. The campus is self-sufficient with all its needs from banks to hospitals to transport, canteens to commercial areas and top class sporting facilities like a gym, stadiums and an Olympic pool. The Department of Management Studies is a part of the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, a leading academic institution in the country. The location of DoMS is at IITMs.

It spread over an area of 630 acres with 17 departments, ranging from sciences and humanities to engineering. The information ecosystem and IIT Madras Research Park provide a unique platform for management students to learn and grow outside the classrooms. The academy at DoMS focuses on Management Studies including Master of Science and PhD programs that nurture research and generation of knowledge.

Most of the IIT Madras campus is a protected forest taken from the Guindy National Park. The university is home to the Blackbuck, one of the most beautiful deer species in the world. The campus is also home to a sizable population of chital or spotted deer, bonnet macaques, monkeys and many other rare animals. Several other smaller and more beautiful life forms help much to complete the biodiversity on the campus. There are more than 300 varieties of trees and plants within the IIT campus including a substantial number of native wild species unique to tropical dry evergreen ecology.

IITM is a haven for birdwatchers in the city with nearly 100 species of birds at various times of the year. The majority of rainwater is drained by a natural lake deepened in 1988 and in 2003. 

IITM DoMS Hostels

IIT Madras is a residential institute, housing students in hostels. There are 23 hostels that are named after India major rivers 16 hostels are for male students and 7 are for females.

First year undergraduate students are accommodated in shared rooms. In later years single, double and triple rooms are allocated depending on the hostel. Postgraduate students stay in either shared or single rooms. All rooms are equipped with a facility for accessing the internet and LAN. The hostels also have a computer area.

IIT Madras DoMS hostels have a lawn and a library where students can borrow books. Every hostel also has a washing machine, some sports equipment and music/tech/television rooms. Each hostel organises an annual hostel night in which everyone celebrates with food and music.

In IIT Madras campus the students' activities centre offers good facilities such as an Olympic-standard swimming pool, a well equipped gymnasium, the II -Chemplast cricket facility, a spacious stadium and a cutting edge wood floored indoor stadium. Bank

The IIT Madras campus has two banks State Bank of India (SBI) and Canara Bank each in separate buildings. Both banks sell application forms for major national exams like CAT. Employees salaries are credited through SBI which has two ATMs one on campus and one near the Taramani Guesthouse. Canara Bank is near a shopping area and residential zone with ATMs on the campus grounds and at the Student Facility Centre. An ICICI Bank ATM is also available at the Hostel Management Office for students.

Post Office

The IIT Madras DoMS has a Post Office and a Telecom Centre both of which serve separate postal zones. The Telecom Centre is located in the Management Science building, close to the library.  It is used to send telegraphs, faxes and long-distance calls.  The Post Office, located near the State Bank of India, is open from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm on weekdays and on weekends from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Shopping Complex 

The campus has two shopping malls catering to the needs of students and locals.  One, the Student Facility Centre (Gurunath) is situated in front of the Narmada dormitory.  Another is located in a residential area. The second building houses a bakery and saloon, while all general supplies and groceries are also available.

Hospital

The Institute Hospital near the Central Workshop, provides care for students’ general health needs. Fully equipped laboratories for all investigations, X-rays and in patient wards including an ambulance service are also available. Apollo Hospital owns and operates the hospital pharmacy.

Bus Transport

The Institute offers bus transportation on campus. Every 20-30 minutes four normal buses and ten battery-powered cars travel throughout campus. They are named after Indian mountains and peaks. They travel between the IN-Gate, Gajendra Circle and the Hostel and Department areas. The bus shelter is situated close to the Staff Canteen.

IIT Madras DoMS infrastructure

Modern laboratories and well stocked libraries enable students and teachers to pursue new research. IIT Madras is a residential institute with about 550 faculty, 10000 students and over 2000 administrative and support staff. The campus is self-contained and spread over around 250 hectares of beautiful wooded land. Specific departments and centres have strong infrastructure while many centrally placed facilities exist for researchers. The Institute has sixteen academic departments and a few advanced research centres in several engineering and pure science areas and about 100 laboratories organised on a novel pattern.

IIT Madras has 36 Centres of Excellence in various disciplines of study that provide leadership, research, assistance and sectoral skill training. COEs act as resource centres for various fields of study that work along with industry to identify emerging skill gaps and train students accordingly. COEs provide research and training in advanced fields of technology, helping address some of the major areas of concern for the country and reducing the gap in student skills.

The IIT Madras Research Park was created to bring together innovators, experienced professionals and ambitious startups in one place. With strong infrastructure and top talent on campus the research park is a great platform for innovation and research. The park offers a strategic opportunity for businesses and researchers to establish an R&D centre and leverage knowledge from globally recognised faculty, research scholars and students.

IIT Madras Central Library

The Central Library at IIT Madras is a necessary facility for students, professors and researchers. The library offers a wide range of resources, such as books, e-journals, theses, reports, patents and standards for academic and research purposes. The library website gives electronic access to full text databases, bibliographic information and e-journals. The website also has details about library policies, collections, working hours, services and the location of materials.
