IIM Visakhapatnam Starts Second Batch of Executive PGDM Program for Defence Sector Officers

IIM Visakhapatnam has started the second batch of its Executive PGDM for officers and executives working in the defence sector. The one-year program is designed to improve leadership and management skills among defence professionals.

IIM Visakhapatnam Starts Second Batch of Executive PGDM Program for Defence Sector Officers

The program has been designed with guidance from the Department of Defence Production under the Union Ministry of Defence and in association with the National Academy of Defence Production, HAL Management Academy and BEL Academy for Excellence-Nalanda. The current group includes executives from six defence PSUs, NAD and one private defence organisation. On average participants are thirty-eight years old with more than twelve years of industry experience. 

Ganti Venkateswarlu attended the inauguration ceremony as the chief guest. During his speech, he appreciated IIM Visakhapatnam for successfully completing the first batch of the program and encouraged participants to contribute towards making India self-reliant in the defence sector.

He said that good leadership requires people who can handle challenges, motivate teams and bring positive change. He also urged participants to focus on small improvements that can create a larger impact over time.

IIM Visakhapatnam Director Prof. M. Chandrasekhar spoke about the strong collaboration between industry and academics in the program. He explained that the course uses practical case-based learning and has been specially designed to meet the management and leadership needs of the defence industry.

Prof Prashant Premkumar Nair the admissions chair presented details about the participant group and their professional background. Prof. B. Srirangacharyulu, Program Chair explained the course structure, teaching method and key learning goals of the program.

Prof Nair also thanked the participants and their families for their support and commitment. He expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Defence for its partnership and trust and appreciated the faculty and staff of IIM Visakhapatnam for helping in the successful launch of the program.

Leadership in the Defence Sector

  • The EPGDPM program has been designed in the format of a modular MBA course.

  • After successfully completing the first year participants will receive an Executive PGDM.

  • Students can also choose to continue for a second year to earn an MBA degree.

  • The program follows a hybrid learning model with both online classes and campus immersion sessions.

  • The first two-week campus immersion takes place at IIM Visakhapatnam at the beginning of the course.

  • The second campus immersion will feature training programs at BEL Academy for Excellence-Nalanda, HAL Management Academy and the National Academy of Defence Production in Nagpur.

  • The final two-week immersion program will be conducted at ESCP Business School in Paris, France.
