The award was presented during the IPMA Global Project Profession Forum 2026, which was conducted on 13th February 2026. The award was received by Prof. Satish S. Maheswarappa, Dean (Academics), on behalf of the institute from Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services, Government of Tamil Nadu.

This award recognizes institutions that have been contributing to the development of project management professionals through their academics, industry engagement and professional certification outcomes.

During the event, Dr. Godwin Tennyson, Director (i/c) of IIM Tiruchirappalli, in his speech, said that the institute provides project management courses as electives in its MBA programs. The institute has also developed many professionals in this area through management development programs.

He also mentioned that the institute has started a Post Graduate Certificate Programme in Advanced Infrastructure Project Management on 22nd February 2026 in a blended learning mode. He expressed his gratitude to IPMA and PMA India for recognizing the efforts of the institute in reaching higher standards.

IIM Tiruchirappalli offers project management courses as part of its course structure in various programs.

The institute provides a mix of theoretical education and practical learning. This enables the students to acquire project management skills that are in line with international standards.

A large number of students of the Post Graduate Programme in Management have qualified for the IPMA Level D Certification. They have done so by applying the knowledge they have acquired from the project management elective offered by the institute. This clearly indicates the relevance of classroom education to international standards.

The institute also helps students acquire globally recognized certifications in addition to their academic education. This enables the students to become ready to take up complex and large-scale projects in the industry.

To further enhance skills in the infrastructure stream, the Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli has introduced the Post Graduate Certificate Programme in Advanced Infrastructure Project Management.

The launch of this certificate programme reflects the strong emphasis of the institute on bridging academic knowledge with industry-specific skills. With the provision of systematic learning in the management of infrastructure projects, the Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli is continuing to support skill development in a domain that is significant for the growth of the nation. 

The receipt of the Institutional Excellence Award 2025 for the second time emphasizes the strong commitment of the institute to quality education and improvement.
