IIM Bodh Gaya Receives the Highest Infrastructure Excellence CPWD Award
The institute earned the Certificate of Merit in the category of Overall Best Completed Project for its Permanent Campus (Phase I), recognising exceptional implementation in planning, building and project management. It also earned the award for Best MEP (Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing) Services in a New Completed Project, which honours the technical excellence of its infrastructural systems. These honours some of the highest from CPWD, were conferred on the Superintending Engineer cum Project Director, Bodh Gaya, in a move that attested to the institute's partnership with CPWD towards offering world-class facilities in higher education.
IIM Bodh Gaya Director Professor Vinita S. Sahay said the award indicates the spirit of the institute. These awards are not just about buildings; they indicate our vision, values and belief that scholarly environments should inspire and enable greatness. That this honour has reached Bihar is highly remarkable and they are pleased to assist in transforming attitudes through quality-led execution, she added.
CPWD, the lead government construction agency of India, executes projects across the nation for premier institutions, ministries, and public facilities. The choice of awarding two out of the five national awards to IIM Bodh Gaya's campus project shows that the institute has never compromised on its commitment to excellence and innovation. It is also a turning point for Bihar, as such recognition puts the state's education infrastructure at the national forefront for excellence and vision-driven growth.
The Permanent Campus (Phase I) of IIM Bodh Gaya, which won an award, was planned upon laying the foundation stone in 2015 and later took form when the Bihar Government allocated 118.82 acres of land in 2018. The Union Cabinet set aside ₹411.72 crores in the budget to build Phase 1 of the permanent campus. The project was done in a systematic manner.
On 20th February 2024, Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi dedicated the campus, which reflects a bold and reflective architectural idea blending sustainable architecture, energy efficiency and modernity with Bihar's rich cultural heritage. The Permanent Campus, covering approximately 73 acres, has been planned to reflect openness, inclusiveness and scholarly aspiration, all of which are in line with the very core idea of IIM Bodh Gaya focusing on excellence rooted in tradition.
With this national distinction from CPWD, IIM Bodh Gaya not only becomes a part of India's finest-planned public institutions, but it also focuses on its commitment to building infrastructure that is modern, inclusive and sustainable.
