DMS IIT Delhi History

The Department of Management Studies is the result of the evolution of an idea which was floated in 1963. What was an idea germinated into existence and in 1974, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi formed an internal committee to study the functioning of the institute's management department. In 1975 an expert group was constituted to officially explore the viability of opening this sector on a more long-term basis. The result was an M.Tech course in "Management Systems" at the School for System Studies (subsequently renamed School for Systems and Management Studies). The key Group on Management was set up in 1978 and the key inputs to full-time management education at IIT(D) were reaffirmed by an Advisory Committee of academic and industry experts. There has been no looking back since then. The School of Systems and Management Studies became the Centre for Systems and Management Studies.  It was subsequently renamed the Centre for Management Studies.

The department was instituted in 1993 through a modification to the IIT (D) statutes.  Evidently, the department caters to an identified need within the Indian industry and derives satisfaction from its strong field focus in all curricular activities.

DMS IIT Delhi provides a variety of management courses to serve various academic and professional requirements. The flagship MBA and Telecom MBA are 2 year full time programs with CAT admissions and fee ₹12 lakhs per program. The Executive MBA program is for working professionals and charges ₹18 lakhs for a 2 year duration. Aspirants need to clear the CAT exam to be considered for admission to Department of Management Studies (DMS), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi's MBA courses in 2025. Although the cut-off has not yet been declared, it is likely to be above the 97 percentile due to the reputation of the institute as a top-ranked business school in India. 1. Register and apply: Interested parties may apply online by providing the necessary data.

2. Written Examination: Candidates who meet the requirements must be appear for the computer-based written test that the IIT DMS conducts. The written exam consists of 4-parts that evaluate the following skills of candidate: verbal, analytical, quantitative/data interpretation and business awareness. 

3. Group Discussion: Those shortlisted will be invited to a group discussion based on their performance in the computer-based written exam.

4. Personal Interview: Based on their performance in the computer-based written test and group discussion the shortlisted candidates will be contacted for a personal interview.

5. Final Decision: In the final stage, Written exams, in-person interviews and group discussions (GD) are used to select the students.

IIT Delhi has 14 hostels, of which 11 are for boys and three are for girls. Nilgiri, Karakorum, Aravali, Jluvamukhi, Satpur, Zanskar, Kumaon, Windows, Shuvalk, Gerrnar, Dudagir -Hostels for boys. Girls stay exclusively in Himadri and Kailash hostels. The institute's hostels are completely self-contained and feature common areas like living room, dining room, indoor games room and reading area.
