The Prime Minister began the inauguration ceremony by inaugurating the six-lane Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu in Guwahati. The bridge, which has been constructed at a cost of approximately ₹3,030 crores, will connect Guwahati to North Guwahati and will be the first extradosed bridge in the Northeast. The new bridge will cut down the travel time between the two parts of the city from 30 minutes to seven minutes. Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma were also present at the inauguration ceremony.

The new bridge will also have the latest earthquake-resistant design, including base-isolation technology, robust stay cables and a real-time monitoring system. The foundation stone of the bridge was laid in February 2019 and its construction began in March 2020 under the then Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. The total length of the project is 7.75 km, including approach roads and flyovers.

Later in Guwahati, the Prime Minister also launched IIM Guwahati, dedicated a modern National Data Centre and flagged off 225 electric buses for four cities. The temporary campus of IIM Guwahati was also inaugurated virtually. The new institute, approved in the last year, will be the second IIM in the Northeast after IIM Shillong. The permanent campus of the institute will be constructed near Guwahati at an investment of ₹555 crore, with the help of IIM Ahmedabad.

The National Data Centre, constructed in Amingaon in the Kamrup district of Assam at an investment of ₹348 crore, will house major government online services and function as a disaster recovery site for the region.
