ONGC Green and IIM Nagpur Join Hands to Support Renewable Energy in India

Professor Bhimaraya Metri the Director of IIM Nagpur and Harsh Nupur Joshi the COO of ONGC Green Limited have signed the Memorandum of Understanding. Dignitaries from both the parties were present at the time of signing. IIM Nagpur was represented by Professor Alok Kumar Singh Associate Dean of External Relations and Professor Nikunj Kumar Jain the Dean of Alumni and Corporate Relationships while General Manager (Electrical) Deepak Kumar represented ONGC Green.
This coming together ensures that India meets its target of being a net zero carbon emitter by the year 2070. Energy storage solutions, biofuels, and green hydrogen are the key domains that India focuses on. The primary areas of concentration are energy storage, biofuels and green hydrogen. Green hydrogen has been identified as a crucial sector that can help increase the energy security of India. Professor Metri stated that the global community is observing India’s pursuit of clean energy and this collaboration would bring the knowledge of academia from IIM Nagpur and the experience of ONGC Green to this sector.
Both these institutions will collaborate as part of an agreement to work jointly on issues concerning the development of ESG frameworks, integration of renewable energy into conventional power infrastructure and development of carbon and green credit markets. This will enable them to influence e-mobility policies along with running leadership programs to train professionals in the green energy domain.
Such a move is also expected to benefit the public by promoting clean, reliable and affordable energy, increasing job creation opportunities in the renewable energy sector and enhancing public health through a reduction in carbon emissions.
ONGC Green a subsidiary of the renewable energy business of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation is planning to develop a total of 10 GW of green energy by the year 2030. These would include initiatives in solar energy, wind energy, energy storage, biofuels as well as hydrogen energy. The research support offered by the IIM Nagpur would definitely bring ONGC Green closer to its plans.
In general this collaboration encompasses the strengths of both academia and industry as well as the strong commitment of India to clean energy and sustainable development.
