The announcement underlined that accountability, long-term commitment and ethical governance are essential parts of a growing emphasis in today's complex global environment. It also highlighted the importance of being environmentally responsible and doing cross-national learning.
With 154 countries assessed on success beyond traditional economic indicators, the index offers an open and inclusive evaluation framework. In so doing, this progressive approach will foster informed policy-making, constructive international dialogue and an enhanced quality of life.
Shri Ram Nath Kovind, Hon’ble Former President of India, in his address during the launch ceremony, said that this index is a reflection of a larger thought on how a nation behaves. He emphasized that this also measures a nation’s performance on serving its citizens and holds on to humanitarian tenets in treating its subjects, citing that morality has been an inculcated part of Indian culture itself.
Sharing his views, Prof. Manoj Tiwari, Director, IIM Mumbai, added that the institute is committed to the generation of knowledge beyond the confines of conventional education. He pointed out the need for the educational system to instill the value of being a responsible citizen of society and the world at large and also a responsible contributor to the economy and society.
JNU Vice-Chancellor Shantishree Pandit said that in today’s uncertain times, legitimacy comes not just from power but also from responsibility.
Constructed in three dimensions, this NRI encourages internal responsibility with emphasis on dignity and the well-being of citizens, environmental responsibility with emphasis on sustainability and climate change, and external responsibility that includes measurement of efforts for peace and cooperation in the global community. The people-focused vision seems promising in the situation that calls for change.
