The inauguration ceremony was attended by Prof Alok Kumar Rai, Director of IIM Calcutta as the Chief Guest. Guests of Honour included Shri Srikanth Srinivasan from NASSCOM and Shri Dheeraj Gaur from Arete Capital Service Pvt Ltd.
Welcoming the participants, Prof Naliniprava Tripathy, Director (I/C) of IIM Shillong, spoke about the Institute’s strong legacy in developing ethical leaders. She highlighted its global rankings, accreditations, MoUs and specialised centres that promote research, consultancy and capacity building.
She also encouraged students to build skills like collaboration, adaptability, empathy, continuous learning and leadership in today’s fast - changing business world. She added that the programs would be challenging but highly rewarding.
In his address, Prof Alok Kumar Rai, the Director of IIM Calcutta, highlighted the rising global reputation of Indian management education. He said modern management studies are becoming more research-focused and industry-relevant and encouraged participants to contribute to society through research, knowledge creation and responsible leadership.
Delivering the keynote address, Shri Srikanth Srinivasan said that modern leadership is not just about authority but about enabling innovation with responsibility and building collaborative ecosystems. He stressed that innovation is essential for organisations to stay relevant in a fast-changing world.
He also highlighted India's growing strength in technology, talent and innovation, saying the country is at a key turning point driven by these factors. He added that the future will depend on leaders who promote purposeful innovation, empower people and support sustainable growth.
Shri Dheeraj Gaur advised participants to face challenges with a problem-solving attitude, stay curious and humble and focus on continuous learning and strong professional relationships. He also encouraged them to take responsibility and question processes constructively.
The PhDWP Batch 2026 includes 20 participants from different academic and professional backgrounds, while the PGPWE Batch 2026 has 87 participants from sectors like automobile, consulting, manufacturing and IT.
Prof Mousumi Bhattacharya and Prof Sitanshu Sekhar Das administered the oath to both batches and motivated them to make full use of the learning opportunities at IIM Shillong.
