IIM Lucknow Plans Corporate Park to Boost Industry Links

Modelled on the lines of innovation parks set up in IITs like Madras, Bombay and Delhi, IIM Lucknow Director Prof. M. P. Gupta, who has worked in IIT Delhi has floated the idea of a corporate park being set up in the institute.

The proposal has been thoroughly discussed by the IIM Lucknow director and senior faculty members. The institute is expected to meet Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath soon to get administrative and logistical support for the proposed initiative.

According to a senior faculty member of the institute, who is a part of the core team, the IIM Lucknow campus is spread over 185 acres and some more land in the vicinity would be needed to develop the corporate park. The top IT companies would be encouraged to set up their base there, which would provide better interaction opportunities for students and industry experts.

According to officials, the proposed corporate park would require approximately 20 to 50 acres of land. IIM Lucknow Director Prof. M. P. Gupta is likely to request a meeting with the Chief Minister to present the proposal. Since land acquisition involves government approvals, the progress of this project would largely depend on the cooperation of the state government and its administration, according to a faculty member.

Pointing out the importance of this proposed project, the professor stated that the corporate park would provide immense opportunities for students and would greatly improve industry exposure. The proposed project may be implemented as a public-private partnership (PPP) venture, since the investment required for construction and infrastructure development would be substantial. The faculty member referred to this proposed project as a transformational initiative and stated that its success would depend on the interest of the state government.
