IIM Calcutta Innovation Park has launched a Rs 50 crore fund to support cleantech and sustainability enterprises

The initiative is a milestone in the way India supports sustainability-based enterprises. Ajay Jain IIMCIP Chairman said that apart from funding the scheme will offer business firms mentorship, market entry and partnership with corporations and governments, leading to a complete-stack ecosystem enabling them to grow faster and create measurable climate impact.

The next big wave in India will be cleantech and sustainability. With this ₹50 crore fund we want to assist entrepreneurs from across the nation who are able to grow the economy and have a climate impact. Success for them isn't just unicorn-making; it's about changing lives and communities in the quest for Viksit Bharat @2047 Jain elaborated.

Besides the fund Jain spoke about IIMCIP's Mission 2047 – A Social Unicorn to impact one billion people by 2047.

The strategy involves fostering entrepreneurship in untapped regions like the East and Northeast, scaling women's entrepreneurship that has already spawned more than 60 Crorepati Didis and introducing digital-first incubation programs to offer training and capital to entrepreneurs beyond metro centers.

Jain explained that their plan was bold but distinctive and that they wanted to prove that India's startup ecosystem was not confined to metros but also existed in cities like Guwahati, Ranchi, Bhubaneswar and other small towns where the dreams of entrepreneurship took wing.

Dr Subhrangshu Sanyal CEO of IIMCIP said that impact was always the real gauge of success. Over the past decade IIMCIP has sponsored over 130 entrepreneurs, facilitated over ₹2000 crore in follow on investments and accumulated a portfolio worth over ₹8000 crore. He added that multiple lucrative exits demonstrated the strength and maturity of their incubation approach. According to him their activities had created more than 35000 jobs, expanded 450 rural businesses and improved the lives of over 9.5 million individuals.
