IIM Bangalore Introduces Online FinTech Certificate Program for Young Professionals

The Department of Electronics, IT, and Bt, Government of Karnataka, established the Center of Excellence (CoE) in FinTech with the goal of advancing the state's fintech sector. This program falls under the Skilling & Training pillar of the CoE.

The course will be in two stages a six-month Foundation Certificate and a three-month Advanced Certificate for those who pass the first stage.  The IIMBx website will accept applications from August 11 until September 14, 2025.

With funding assistance from the Government of Karnataka the course is made available at a highly subsidised rate making it accessible to many more learners. The government intends for this to equip young people and professionals with the skills required to compete in a rapidly changing fintech sector. The authorities have also shown interest in utilising the programme to get more women back to work following breaks from their careers.

IIM Bangalore Director Professor Rishikesha T. Krishnan pointed out that the program was formulated in consultation with the state government and will also facilitate fintech startups with NSRCEL the entrepreneurship centre of the institute. According to him, it will have a major impact on skill development in Karnataka.

The program will be directed by Professor G. Sabarinathan who was the former faculty member of the Finance & Accounting department at IIM Bangalore. He clarified that the program has been designed with great care involving both academics and industry professionals with the objective to equip graduates from any discipline to fit into a variety of jobs within the Indian fintech industry. He characterised the program as vision-oriented and emphasised its ability to provide quality fintech education to all citizens in the state.
