IIM Bangalore and NeSL Launch Electric Bus to Promote Green Mobility

The launch event was attended by NeSL MD and CEO Debajyoti Ray Chaudhuri who is Executive Director Nivedita E.P., Canara Bank Executive Director Bhavendra Kumar, IIMB Director In-charge Prof. U. Dinesh Kumar and other senior officials.
Officials from Canara Bank were also honoured at a felicitation ceremony for their contributions to the bank's digital and green initiatives with NeSL. Recognised as Green Warriors the awardees were appreciated for promoting digital adoption and sustainable banking practices.
During his address Debajyoti Ray Chaudhuri highlighted that electric vehicles are not only cleaner but also more energy-efficient. He shared that NeSL has supported IIMB’s green projects such as solar panel installations and EV charging stations. He also spoke about NeSL’s Digital Document Execution platform India’s first paperless system for creating and storing financial contracts developed in partnership with Canara Bank.
Prof. U. Dinesh Kumar thanked NeSL and Canara Bank for their continued support in IIMB’s sustainability efforts. He noted that IIMB has implemented several green measures including 75 recharge wells, solar installations and EV infrastructure to make the campus a model of environmental leadership.
Prof. Haritha Saranga who is the Chairperson of the Sustainability Taskforce spoke about IIMB’s water and energy management initiatives. The campus harvests about 1.43 million litres of rainwater annually meeting 20% of its domestic water needs. It also uses solar heaters, a biogas plant and rooftop solar panels to reduce carbon emissions. Over the previous five years IIMB has reduced overall emissions by 10% she continued.
Canara Bank’s Executive Director Bhavendra Kumar said the bank’s collaboration with NeSL has made processes like gold loan approvals faster and more cost-effective. He added that the bank continues to invest in technology and sustainable finance with ESG principles now part of its core risk management strategy.
