IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Roorkee and IIT Guwahati have boycotted the THE Rankings already due to a lack of transparency in the ranking process.
BITS Pilani has announced that it will stop supplying any kind of information for university rankings. The institute said that it is committed to transparency, sound processes, and verifiable standards for ranking higher education institutions.
As part of this policy, BITS Pilani will stop supplying the kind of information required for Times Higher Education (THE) rankings. This means that the institute will not be featured in any future issues of THE World University Rankings, Asia University Rankings or Rankings by Subject.
The institute also announced that it may return to THE Rankings in the future if the ranking process becomes more transparent and sound.
It added that global rankings can be useful as one of the tools for benchmarking, but only if they adhere to credible and clear evaluation standards.
