328 Students are Enrolled in the MBA and PhD Programs at IIM Nagpur
Out of 323 MBA students, 100 are females and 223 are males from 23 states and union territories, from Nagaland, Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir to Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, UP, Delhi and Bihar, creating a mini-India.
120 of the students are recent college graduates, and 203 have more than six months of work experience. The academic and gender diversity of IIM Nagpur is reflected in the batch's 204 Engineering alumnae, 90 Arts and Commerce, 17 Science and 15 Medicine graduates. Five students were also enrolled in the full-time PhD program this year.
Saraswati Vandana and the lighting of lamps marked the start of the event. The Chairperson of the MBA program, Prof. Prakash Awasthy, gave a warm welcome to the students and announced the day as a day of change. Prof. Sujeet Kumar Sharma welcomed the students, citing the research-oriented focus of the institute. Professor Prashant Gupta, dean of academics, faculty, and alumni affairs, urged all students to embrace lifelong learning and take full advantage of IIM Nagpur's development.
The Director of IIM Nagpur, Dr. Bhimaraya Metri welcomed the Chief Guest and Guest of honor, besides the incoming MBA and PhD students. He highlighted how IIM Nagpur, located in the zero-mile hub of India, has gained the reputation of being the fastest-growing IIM, having an extremely experienced and research-oriented faculty. India is becoming a world hope and IIM Nagpur is doing its bit by developing future leaders through experiential learning, policy interactions and innovative research, said Mr. Singh.
He highlighted IIM Nagpur's commitment to holistic education, industry interaction and executive education, points of association with 43 large organisations and initiatives in areas such as AI, agriculture, healthcare and national skill development.
Managing Director and Chairman of KS Cheema Group of Companies, Shri K. S. Cheema, delivered an inspiring address to the students, highlighting the traits that create great leadership. He went on to say that success should be defined by one's character rather than credentials and he encouraged the students to maintain integrity, ethics and discipline throughout their path. He urged students to create an impactful change and leave a legacy based on humanity and purpose.
Chief Guest Shri Anurag Sharma, Managing Director of Shree Baidyanath Ayurved Bhawan, was thrilled to be present here at IIM Nagpur and reminded the students of their pivotal role in shaping India's future. He asserted that by 2047, when the nation celebrates 100 years of independence, the students will be at the peak of their careers, taking the country to greater heights globally. He stressed the need for lifelong learning, regarding good health as real wealth, and adopting new technology such as AI. He advised the students to remain rooted in good principles and success will follow easily. He also added that IIMs are not only producing managers but also raising future torchbearers of Indian civilization.
Chief Guest and Guest of Honor Dr. Metri distributed Director's Merit Certificates among second-year students during this function. Ten merit and ten need-cum-merit scholarships are available from IIM Nagpur as part of their ongoing efforts to assist students. The KS Cheema Group of Companies also announced a scholarship for a meritorious student hailing from rural and economically backward areas on a merit basis, taking the number of available scholarships for the ongoing academic session to 21.
PhD Programs Chairperson, Prof Satish Kumar, presented the vote of thanks. He thanked the distinguished guests for sharing their experience with the IIM Nagpur students.
