As global supply chains continue to face challenges such as market disruptions, fluctuating demand, workforce shortages, rising costs and rapid technological advancements, organisations are seeking professionals who can manage operations efficiently, make data-driven decisions and build resilient supply chains. The program addresses these industry needs through a blend of live online classes and on-campus sessions, enabling participants to develop cross-functional decision-making skills and gain practical knowledge of emerging technologies such as Blockchain and the Internet of Things. With a strategic approach to operations management, the program helps professionals connect core operational concepts with modern business requirements while equipping experienced managers with practical frameworks, leadership skills and tools to address evolving organisational challenges.
Growing industry demand and global employment trends highlight the increasing importance of upskilling in operations and supply chain management. The global supply chain management market is expected to reach USD 72.82 billion by 2034, driven by the rapid growth of e-commerce, digital technologies and AI-powered supply chains. In addition, the World Economic Forum Future of Jobs Report 2025 projects that 170 million new jobs will be created by 2030 with operations and supply chain roles continuing to play a vital role in helping organisations improve resilience, productivity and long-term growth.
Speaking about the 8th batch, Sumanta Basu and Vishal Bansal, Program Directors and faculty members in the Operations Management group at IIM Calcutta, said that while operations professionals gain valuable experience by solving complex business challenges every day, long-term career advancement requires a broader strategic perspective. They added that the program combines practical industry experience with modern management frameworks, analytics, and technology-driven approaches to help participants make better decisions and become more effective operations leaders.
Previous batches have attracted experienced professionals including CEOs, Directors of Operations, Assistant Vice Presidents, Functional Heads and Senior Managers from industries such as automotive, information technology, procurement, logistics, oil and gas, retail, food and beverage, power and construction. Participants have typically brought between three and over 15 years of professional experience.
The curriculum is built around globally recognised case studies and business simulations and is organised into six core modules - Essentials of Operations and Supply Chain, Supply Chain Analytics, Technology and Modelling, Sourcing, Financing and Process Innovation, Procurement and Distribution and Cross-Functional Areas in Supply Chain Management. The program concludes with a capstone project allowing participants to apply their learning to real business challenges.
Applicants must have a graduation, diploma or master’s degree with at least 50 per cent marks and a minimum of 3 years of full-time professional work experience to be eligible for the program. The program is well-suited for operations and supply chain professionals, business leaders, entrepreneurs and cross-functional managers looking to strengthen their expertise in operations-led business transformation.
The program will be delivered through an interactive learning direct-to-device platform supported by two campus immersion sessions at IIM Calcutta. Learning methods include live faculty lectures, practical exercises, classroom discussions, case studies, simulations and reading materials. Participants who successfully complete the programme will be awarded a Certificate of Completion from IIM Calcutta along with Lifetime Executive Education Alumni Status.
