The MoU exchange took place in New Delhi and was attended by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Ambassador Vinay Kwatra joined the event online from the United States.
This new AI school will be created with a ₹100 crore donation from Ms. Chandrika Krishnamurthy Tandon and her husband, Mr. Ranjan Tandon. Ms. Tandon is a former student of IIMA from the PGP batch of 1975.
Pradhan spoke at the event and said that this MoU was signed before the India–AI Impact Summit 2026. He said it shows the real steps India is taking under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership to become a global leader in AI. He called artificial intelligence important for people, development and the planet. He also said India’s strength in AI will come from both technology and skilled people and institutions.
The Minister thanked the Tandon family for their donation. He said their support continues the culture of alumni giving back to their institutions. He added that the new School will help improve India’s AI strength, make AI more accessible, create global jobs from India and use AI for social benefits.
The Krishnamurthy Tandon School of Artificial Intelligence will be a unique AI school inside a management institute. It will connect technology, management and public impact. The School will have a global outlook and will use AI to solve large and complex problems in India in a responsible way.
Building on IIMA’s history in leadership and governance, the School wants to shape how AI is created, used and regulated. Its goal is to create long-term value for businesses and society. It will also support IIMA’s mission to grow management education in a world where AI is becoming more important.
The School will act as a center for business-focused and practical AI. It will bring together teachers, industry experts, policymakers and global partners. Its research will focus on real applications and case studies. The aim is to turn advanced AI ideas into useful tools and systems for industry, government and society.
