Two Five-Day MDPs on Public Policy & Governance by IIM Shillong

Two five-day MDPs were introduced by the IIM Shillong's Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis. One focused on Public Policy and Process Re-engineering for officials of the Nagaland State Government and the other on Grassroots Governance for the Department of Rural Development Government of Mizoram.

The Chief Guest at the first session was Som Kamei, Planning Advisor and North Eastern Council.

In his remarks Kamei emphasised the North Eastern Council's role as a catalyst for the region's planned, coordinated and sustainable development especially through capacity building, institutional improvement and knowledge linkages.

In order to foster public trust in government procedures. He stressed the dynamic nature of public administration and the need for citizen-centric service delivery, data-driven, evidence-based decision-making and outcome-oriented governance.

He called on those taking part to become change agents capable of turning policy into real advancements.

As guests of honour John Lalnunsanga, RGSA Department of Local Administration, Rural Development and Administration, State Programme Manager, Government of Mizoram and Kupeusing Meru, ARC, Nagaland House and Shillong attended the event.

The initiative of IIM Shillong in creating training programs that are contextually relevant and enhance administrative efficiency, participatory governance and grassroots development was acknowledged by both dignitaries.

Prof. Nalini Prava Tripathy Director (I/c) IIM Shillong emphasised in her inaugural speech the significance of ongoing capacity building and a deeper comprehension of policy, governance and leadership for improving the efficacy of public institutions and guaranteeing that development initiatives result in real benefits for citizens.

She reiterated the Institute's dedication to using these cooperative programs to promote the North Eastern Region's developmental priorities.

Prior to this Sanjeev Ningombam established the program's tone by describing the two MDPs' goals and thematic focus With a clear focus on outcome-oriented administration, accountability, transparency and citizen-centric governance. 

The programs bring together field-level functionaries, senior officials and elected members from Mizoram and Nagaland to develop systems of government throughout the North Eastern Region. This offers a special chance for cooperative involvement, experience exchange and cross-learning.
