NMIMS Appoints Professor Sougata Ray as New Vice Chancellor

Professor Ray has more than 30 years of experience in the fields of higher education, innovation, business strategy, entrepreneurship and corporate governance.

Prior to joining NMIMS, he worked at ISB as the Thomas Schmidheiny Chaired Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship Practice and served as Executive Director of the Thomas Schmidheiny Centre for Family Enterprise.

He has also held several key positions at IIM Calcutta, including Professor of Strategic Management, Dean and Member of the Board of Governors. Additionally, he led the Innovation Lab at Infosys Technologies as General Manager.

Speaking about the appointment, NMIMS Chancellor Amrish R Patel said that Professor  Ray's academic achievements, leadership experience and dedication to institution building make him the right person to guide NMIMS in its next phase of growth and excellence.

Professor Ray said that it is an honour to lead NMIMS at a time when the global higher education landscape is rapidly evolving. He added that he aims to promote innovation, interdisciplinary learning and social impact while preparing students to succeed in an AI-driven and inclusive world.

An alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad and IIEST Shibpur, Professor Ray has written nearly 200 research papers, books, articles and case studies. He has also played an important role in strengthening institutions such as IIM Indore, IIM Calcutta and ISB.

Under his leadership, NMIMS plans to further enhance research, industry collaborations, entrepreneurship, international partnerships,  interdisciplinary education and AI-enabled learning initiatives.
