IIM Udaipur to offer BBA in Hindi from 2026; Professors raise worries about content and placements

The B-school's move is in line with the Centre's vision of taking higher education to Indian languages.

As per Ashok Banerjee, IIM Udaipur director students joining the BBA course which will be delivered online from the 2026-27 academic year will have the option of taking either English or Hindi as their language of instruction.

Management courses have traditionally been delivered in English.  Our country has many students who graduate from Hindi-medium institutions and find it difficult to follow careers in management because of linguistic difficulties. The new BBA program is more inclusive and will enable Hindi-medium students to follow a career in management Banerjee said.

The first business school to provide a BBA in an Indian language will be IIM Udaipur. The four year program will comprise 40 courses and 60 hours of study per course.

The institute would adopt a blended mode of learning while the faculty members offer 30 hours of curriculum via video lectures. The institute would provide live online classes by instructors and experts from other schools for the remaining 30 hours.

Both Hindi and English will be used by the instructors in their online courses and video presentations.

There isn't a management book in Hindi, according to a former IIM professor. Students will not be able to access course materials in Hindi.

Delivery of the course and placement present significant challenges. Some teachers might know Hindi, but they might lack teaching skills in Hindi. Placements decide a course's popularity. The program in Hindi might not be attractive for potential employers, he said.
