For most working professionals, putting their jobs on hold to pursue an MBA is not an option. It is here that hybrid executive MBA courses can offer a solution by blending online and offline teaching.
IIM Nagpur's two-year Executive MBA-Hybrid program provides middle and senior level professionals with an opportunity to strengthen their business acumen through academic rigor within a format construct targeted at busy executives, offering a blend of meaningful classroom engagement and the convenience of online learning.
Each incoming class, starting with the first in 2021, brings in professionals whose work experience averages ten years across various industries manufacturing, IT, consulting, banking, energy, health care, entrepreneurship and automotive. Such diversity has a huge impact in the classroom, where peer learning is frequently as insightful as formal curricula.
In this hybrid program one-week sessions are conducted in person on the Nagpur campus whereas participants from the Pune campus join online. The format gets reversed every successive week. This ensures that all participants benefit from active classroom discussions while maintaining their professional duties. On the weekends, classes are held. Professionals may easily arrange their work, travel and personal obligations using this timetable.
The curriculum is designed to develop leaders who can think strategically, manage complexity and navigate digital transition. Case studies, role-playing, group projects and interactive sessions with IIM Nagpur instructors and visiting experts are all used in the teaching of the courses.
The program is designed based on three major learning pillars
Analytical and functional competence Increased capability for diagnosing managerial problems and solving them with evidence based reasoning.
Leadership, communication and interpersonal skills Developing strategic thinking and team leadership qualities.
Innovation and stakeholder perspectives Raising awareness regarding sustainability, entrepreneurship and the creation of long term value.

Prof Apoorv Khare, Chairperson of the Executive MBA states that the program's strength is not just in its design, but also in the calibre of its participants. Every batch is a mix of professionals across industries and backgrounds. Their experiences add depth to discussions, broaden perspectives and create an environment of learning that resembles the way one makes decisions in the real world, he says.
According to him, the hybrid model preserves academic rigour but affords CEOs the flexibility they need at those critical junctures of their career. The journey is demanding but transformative, he explains.
