IIM Jammu Hosts AACSB AoL Training to Enhance Faculty & Learning Outcomes

Mr. Geoff Perry, Executive Vice President and Chief Officer for Asia Pacific, Americas and Membership at AACSB, organised the event.

This workshop is a key milestone on IIM Jammu's journey towards AACSB accreditation with a focus on raising faculty competence and academic quality through a customised AoL process.

AoL, aligned to Standard 5 of the 2020 AACSB Accreditation Standards, serves as an instrument for assessing and enhancing teaching and learning outcomes systematically. Executive Vice President and Chief Officer, Asia Pacific, Americas and Membership, AACSB, Mr Geoff Perry and Shri Prathap Das, Regional Head, South Asia AACSB were taken on a tour of the good campus facilities, including the modern library, Nalanda, Mandapam Auditorium, smart classrooms, Vishrantika Faculty Lounge and Vedanta MDP Block. They were led by Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director of IIM Jammu.

The second highlight was the plantation run by Mr Geoff Perry the AACSB's Executive Vice President and Chief Officer for Asia Pacific, Americas and Membership. AACSB's South Asia Regional Head, Shri Prathap Das was also present. Prof. B.S. Sahay Director of the Indian Institutes of Management Jammu observed the activity in the courtyard and took geotagged pictures. In attendance were Dr Gaana J, the IIM Jammu Accreditation Chairperson; Dr V. Raj Kumar the IIM Jammu Accreditation Co-Chairperson and Cmdr. Kesavan Baskkaran the IIM Jammu CAO.

The interactive training goes over every phase of the AoL process in depth, including data collection, learning objectives, competency targets and rubrics. To get a practical grasp of AoL implementation suitable for IIM Jammu all faculty members are taking part in breakout sessions, group discussions and practical exercises.

The primary aims of the training are to create common understanding and terminology for AoL practices, to facilitate shared ownership of the accreditation process, to acquire experiential learning for curriculum development and ongoing improvement and to foster teamwork and reflection to enhance learning outcomes for students.

Assurance of Learning is a transformative methodology that enables institutions to systematically monitor and improve student learning outcomes, according to Mr. Geoff Perry Executive Vice President and Chief Officer, Asia Pacific, Americas and Membership, AACSB. He underscored that engaging faculty members directly in the design, assessment and evaluation process ensures a culture of ongoing development and conformity with international accrediting standards.

Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director of IIM Jammu of stressed that the Assurance of Learning workshop is crucial to the Institute's vision of academic eminence and global benchmarking.  He said that by engaging the faculty actively in the development, evaluation and improvement of learning outcomes, IIM Jammu is building a robust culture of ongoing improvement, innovation and responsibility. He further added that such efforts enhance the Institute's pedagogic practices, promote interdisciplinary collaboration and empower faculty to provide world-class management education that is not only accredited but also prepares students to excel in complex, dynamic and global contexts.

Shri Prathap Das, South Asia AACSB Regional Head informed that the program gives faculty a special opportunity to gain real experience in creating an effective AoL process.  He informed that group activities and professional coaching can assist faculty members in coordinating better curriculum design, assessments and learning objectives for measurable student outcomes thereby enhancing IIM Jammu's academic quality and accreditation readiness.

Prof. Jabir Ali Dean of Faculty and Research IIM Jammu said that the workshop is a necessary step towards building a quality and accountability culture in teaching and learning.  He underlined that AoL techniques not only assist in accreditation but also enhance faculty collaboration, curriculum strength and student development.

Dr Gaana J, Head of Accreditation at IIM Jammu said that the training helps faculties establish a systematic, evidence-based AoL process where academic programs not only align with learning outcomes but are also constantly upgraded for better influence on students' professional growth.

These activities assist in keeping IIM Jammu committed to academic excellence, international standards and the overall development of students and faculty members.  

The session is being hosted by the Accreditation Office at IIM Jammu.
